Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana

Saubhagya Yojna is a government initiative that was launched in September 2017, and aimed to provide electricity connection to every house in the country, especially in rural areas.

By bridging the gap between urban and rural electrification, Saubhagya Yojna is transforming lives and empowering communities.

Electricity connection is free for households that are classified as Below Poverty Line (BPL) or Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

Other households are required to pay a one-time connection charge of Rs. 500. As of March 2023, the program has provided electricity connections to over 280 million households.

This has helped to improve the lives of millions of people by providing them with access to reliable and affordable electricity.

Objective and Benefits of Pradhanmantri Saubhagya Yojana

The primary objective of the Saubhagya Yojna is to bridge the electricity gap in rural and urban areas by ensuring that every household has access to electricity.

The scheme aims to provide last-mile connectivity and expected giving benefit around 25 crore households across the country.

The benefits of Saubhagya Yojna are as: Firstly, it enhances the overall standard of living by enabling households to access lighting, fans, and other electrical appliances.

This facilitates children’s education, as they can study in well-lit rooms and have access to electronic devices.

Additionally, households can now use electrical equipment for income-generating activities, such as running small businesses or cottage industries, thereby fostering economic empowerment.

Implementation and Progress

The implementation of Saubhagya Yojna involves a coordinated effort between the central and state governments, power distribution companies, and other stakeholders.

The process begins with a comprehensive survey to identify unconnected households. The survey data is then used to create an electrification plan, ensuring efficient and effective resources.

Under this scheme, free electricity connections are provided to households categorized under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and identified Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) households.

For other households, a nominal fee is charged for the electricity connection, making it affordable and accessible to all.

Since its launch, Saubhagya Yojna has made remarkable progress. As of [Year], [Percentage] of households have been electrified under the scheme, bringing light to millions of lives.

The government has undertaken various measures to expedite the implementation process, including dedicated helpline numbers to address queries and ensure a smooth transition to electrification.

It aims to improve the quality of life, health, education, communication, and public safety of the people by providing them with a 24×7 power supply.

It has a total budget of Rs. 16,320 crore, out of which Rs. 12,320 crore is provided by the central government as a grant.

The rest is shared by the state governments and other agencies. Saubhagya Yojna has brought light and hope to millions of households in India.

By providing free electricity connections, promoting renewable energy, and ensuring last-mile connectivity, this scheme has empowered communities, improved quality of life, and contributed to sustainable development. Saubhagya Yojna promotes inclusive development and improves the quality of life for all its citizens.
